JOB DESCRIPTION
Do you have the passion to find the smallest most unique Cape Town discoveries for 600 000 people per month. CapeTownMagazine.com is looking for a dynamic mid-level events content producer and editor with a passion for writing, a massive respect for fact-checking and impeccable organisational skills to join our team and keep our events section the best in the nation. You will be responsible for managing the events workflow and for covering once-off events, getting important events and news online quickly, keeping an eye out for smaller, unique events and updating and creating partner events.

We are looking for someone who thrives on digital and deadlines. Who loves Cape Town and has their finger on the pulse in our city, but is not parochial, but is interested in discovering and writing about what happens everywhere: in the city, the suburb and the little dorpies. This candidate is a newshound and an excellent researcher, not shy to make connections. He/she is a sharp and skilled writer who knows how to condense and pack the most interesting discoveries in tight sparkling copy. We are looking for someone wanting to make a mark and craft their career in a constantly growing company.

Our new events content producer also needs to be fluent in and fond of social media (particularly Facebook and Twitter) and needs to understand how to write posts that spin virally and drive traffic to events. Knowing the ins and outs of SEO is an advantage, but willingness to learn is crucial.

DUTIES

  • Sourcing, planning, assigning, weekly and monthly event content

  • Pitching unique, new and interesting events  and news from across Cape Town and surrounds

  • Researching, writing and loading high-quality, interesting and SEO-focussed event informationals and event overviews within a tight deadline-driven environment

  • Managing and mentoring junior events content producer, and editing their work

  • Conducting interviews and communicating with event partners and developing and managing positive client relationships

  • Fact-checking and updating outdated events and events overviews

  • Writing and contributing to other pillars of the magazine, like overviews, new place, news

  • Writing Twitter and Facebook social media posts that promote online content, amplify reach, and drive traffic to the site

  • Helping build and schedule a weekly/monthly newsletter

  • Brainstorming and executing weekly activations for event partners with the help of the partner team

  • Participating in and contributing to editorial planning sessions based on online trend analysis, relevant issues in Cape Town, SEO research and partner focus

  • Attending industry events after hours

KEY COMPETENCIES

REQUIREMENTS

  • An industry relevant tertiary qualification

  • Must live in, love and know Cape Town (especially what’s hot and happening)

  • A minimum of two years in an online/digital position in the magazine or media industry

  • Fluent in English, written and spoken

  • Baseline SEO knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of Facebook and Twitter

  • Experience in online publishing tools and technologies, with knowledge of Google Analytics

  • Experience in content management systems is an advantage

  • Computer literacy: Word, Excel, Internet/Intranet, basic HTML, basic Photoshop

  • A willingness to travel

JOB DESCRIPTION 
CapeTownMagazine.com is looking for a strong, organised and talented content producer with marketing/copywriting smarts to write partner content, including creating content on the overall content section and contribution to its social media channels.

This role is for you if you love creating targeted content about a wide range of discoveries, local businesses and things to do in Cape Town. You should have a passion for writing content that connects with and influences people. You should be an absolute geek in your passion for spreading content created for online media, from websites to newsletters and from Twitter to Facebook. Plus, you should have an interest in how to connect all this to SEO results and have the ability to work on a number of different projects at the same time.

This job offers an opportunity to work at a fast-paced online media company.

You will work with a small, driven team who have a finger on the pulse of what’s hot and happening in the Mother City. Prepare to see Cape Town as you’ve never seen her, as we uncover not only the big news but also all the unique stories that expand and add colour to our city.

The ideal candidate will have a well-developed interest in writing and online media. Good knowledge of content creation and online writing is necessary, as is some experience in Photoshop. Knowledge of driving content through Twitter and Facebook is very recommendable. As this position will mainly focus on creating stellar content to brief, you need to have a sense of copywriting/content marketing concepts to be able to uncover and grasp the unique points about a business and express these clearly in top-notch copy.

That said, this role offers room for growth into writing newsy and lifestyle content, too.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Writing of content

  • Researching and writing content to brief, for partners and across pillars

  • Writing engaging content for our partners and a variety of events and things taking place in Cape Town and surrounds – doing it fast and efficiently

  • Quick turnaround on brainstorming, sourcing, researching and writing engaging SEO content for the following formats:

    • Partner content and events

    • Overviews

    • Newsworthy content

    • New places and discoveries in Cape Town

    • New content/viral/other content

    • Themes and themed content

  • A good understanding of the copy needs of social media channels, esp. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

  • Content management: a grasp of CMS and willingness to learn

  • Come up with strong efficient ways to grow content pillars and our readership

Analytics, communication and growth of readership

  • Work closely with the partner content and relationship manager to brainstorm and execute brand activation campaigns for partners

  • Communicating with partners and developing and managing positive client relationships

  • Attend events and go on unique experiences on behalf of CapeTownMagazine.com

  • Working closely with the head of content to develop new avenues of content and to increase unique visitors numbers, pageviews, newsletter subscriptions and community engagement

REQUIREMENTS

  • Good command of the English language

CapeTownMagazine.com is looking for a cool and creative social media manager with a passion for crafting social content that resonates with our broad and growing audience. The candidate has to have excellent social media copywriting skills, be organised and have a great eye for content that has virality potential. You will be responsible for managing all our social posts, including for partner content, events and editorial. You’ll also have to think on your feet and have the smarts to recognise content that will resonate with our audience, while keeping an eye out for the unique “discovery” content that sets our brand apart.

Our new social media manager is not only smart, witty and fluent in all social media, but he/she has a broad interest in news, events, trends, Cape Town and the country. The candidate has to have experience in reporting and running paid campaigns, is results and data driven.

  • Implement the company’s social media strategy

  • Management of all of CapeTownMagazine.com’s social media channels, for partner and editorial content, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Pinterest, YouTube

  • Create, curate, schedule, publish and manage all social media content (images, video and written)

  • Have overall responsibility for quality posts on social

  • Provide monthly insights on our social media growth and stats, as well as the next focus points for growth

  • Keep track of the key weekly channel performance elements for all social media channels

  • Compile regular reports for management showing results (ROI) for partners and readers

  • Grow our other social media channels and test new channels

  • Manage the social media junior

  • Manage and save partner deliveries in our production system Insightly
