This botanic themed bar is tucked down a little alleyway in Newlands

Tucked behind an old wooden door at the end of a long, narrow alley in Newlands is Botany Bar. It’s a sleek and intimate boutique cocktail lounge  that serves a variety of drinks, craft gins, bespoke whiskey, bubbly and tapas. Also, it has a small courtyard, lit with fairy lights, connecting it to its sister restaurants, Santorini and Pichana

CHILL IN A HIDDEN COURTYARD 

The space is decorated in a rich, botanical theme that includes hanging plants that cascade down the walls. The cosy atmosphere is amplified by dark gray walls and chandeliers hanging from the wooden rafters.

Have a drink near the fireplace that’ll keep you toasty, or get comfortable on the couches downstairs or in the secluded upstairs area overlooking the bar. For a more indoor-outdoor experience, there’s a hidden courtyard lit up with fairy lights.

DRINK COCKTAILS, FROM CLASSICS TO EXTRAVAGANT 

The dark, modern aesthetic bar is a relaxed venue to enjoy a selection of bubbly, whisky, vodka, tequila, craft beer and wine. Mix and match 25 gin varieties with a cordial of your choice, or opt for signature cocktail blends like Strawberry & Pink Peppercorn (strawberry, mint, pink pepper moody) or keep it simple with a Country (sugar snap, ginger, chilli, mint). Each drink is as aesthetically pleasing as the bar itself.

FANCY SOME CHAMPAGNE IN YOUR BUTTER?  

The tapas menu offers a range of small plates, from classics such as Beef Tagliata (parmesan, rocket, semi-dried tomato) to the alcohol-infused  Gin & Fennel Mussels with fresh gin cream, Turkish loaf and Prawns in champagne butter. 

Botany also caters for any events (with no venue fee, and includes a DJ). You can  pre-organise food from  sister restaurants Santorini Café and Pichana Steakhouse.

Botany is open: Tuesday to Thursday, 3pm – 11pm; Friday, 3pm – 12am; Saturday, 2pm – 12am
