Big battery, fast charging, and comes with smart devices
Last updated: Tuesday, 16 April 2024
The Redmi Note 13 series arrived in South Africa on 10 April. It comes with the latest advancements, all while priced to beat other flagship competitors. The three models come with fast-charging processors and ultra-clear 200MP cameras, plus smart devices for only R9 extra per month. Here are five tech specs that will get you excited about the smartphone series.
Xiaomi continues to make affordable and accessible smartphones without compromising on features and performance. Image: Xiaomi
All three smartphones (the standard, Pro, and Pro+ 5G) pack high-wattage chargers, and a huge 5 000 mAh battery size in each model (the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s battery has 4 441 mAh).
Thanks to its fast-charging processors, the phone lasts a day or more, and takes less than 30 minutes to fully charge from 0% to 100%. The Redmi Note Pro charges to 100% in 25 minutes, while the Redmi Note Pro+ 5G does the same in just 19 minutes.
The Redmi Note 13 has a 33W fast charger, while the Pro and Pro+ 5G has 67W and 120W, respectively. Image: Xiaomi
The smartphone series has a triple-camera setup. The standard Redmi’s main camera is 108MP while both the Pro and Pro+ 5G are 200MP (Samsung’s S23 only has 50MP).
Combined with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and 2X/4X zoom, you can take images and videos from any distance, like at a concert and football match, or in low light conditions. The phone is also ideal for close-up shots like vlogging and eliminates blurry footage.

Users can capture as many high-resolution images and videos as they want due to the 12GB of RAM onboard these phones; way more than the 6GB RAM on the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The Redmi Note 13 Pro and Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G boasts an additional 512GB of storage, equivalent to 8 500 photos of 60MB, or just over 30 hours of 1080p video footage.
There’s ample space for apps like photo and video editing software, so if you’re someone who loves having everything installed all at once, you’re catered for here.

An AMOLED screen outperforms conventional LED models in terms of energy efficiency, colour, and sharp contrasts.
Not only does it give you the most accurate colour reproduction (even in direct sunlight), its higher response times makes each interaction smoother with no lag as you scroll.
Plus, the screens are protected by Gorilla Glass 5 (surviving drops onto hard, rough surfaces from up to 1.2 metres). They’re also dust and water-resistant.
Choose from four colours, including midnight black, ice blue, forest green and moonlight white. Image: Xiaomi
The series has an incredibly high refresh rate of 120Hz (double the standard 60Hz of screens like the iPhone 11 Pro).
Whether you’re multitasking, gaming or simply scrolling on Instagram, the smartphone automatically reduces power consumption and ensures a more stable display, giving you a smoother viewing experience.
All three models prioritise user security and device durability, seamlessly combining convenience with cutting-edge security. Image: Xiaomi
If you take out one of the phones on contract with Vodacom, then you can get a range of smart devices like a watch, robot vacuum, air fryer, speaker and fan for R9 extra.
You can control these devices with the new Redmi Note 13 series, even with a voice request.
The robot vacuum can be set up to work on a schedule, so your house can be cleaned while you’re at work or asleep (it even has a mop feature). And you can switch on the air fryer in traffic and have supper ready when you get home.
