Sinn’s restaurant offers winter specials
Inexpensive fine dining and specials at Sinn’s restaurant in Cape Town's Wembley Square
Sinn’s is nothing new in Cape Town. There’s Sinn’s Restaurant, Sinn’s Deli, Sinn’s Bar and even Sinnfull ice-cream. Sinn’s has become a synonym for quality and the finer flavours in life.
Today, let’s focus on the Sinn’s Restaurant. Situated in the fancy Wembley Square courtyard, Sinn’s has a well known chef and owner, Thomas Sinn. The idea is very simple: here you can experience fine dining at a very affordable price. The setting is modern and relaxed; Wembley Square is a Cape Town hot spot. The Sinn’s Restaurant doesn’t have walk-through-business, people come here because they know they get good value.
Thomas Sinn, the chef
Chef Thomas Sinn is originally from Austria and learned his cooking skills in well-known restaurants in Vienna and Germany before moving to South Africa in 1988. He ran the successful fine dining restaurant Blue Danube in Kloof Street for 10 years. After that Thomas Sinn decided to stick to fine dining, but to make it way more approachable and cheaper. In 2006 Thomas Sinn opened the doors to his Sinns restaurant in Wembley Square.
We had the pleasure of tasting the menu and specials and were more than fulfilled. It is fine dining for the eye as well as fine dining for the tastebuds. Sinn’s is great. Friendly staff and an excellent chef show that this kind of dining doesn’t have to be expensive. The prices are surprisingly affordable and encourage sharing lunch and dinner experiences at Sinn’s with colleagues, family and friends.
Sinn’s lunch specials give you the choice of six dishes:
• Chili Con Carne (Ground beef with chili and bean served with Basmati rice, guacamole, tomato salsa and nachos)
• Red Pepper Risotto (Creamy Italian style Risotto, served with a crispy Line Fish fritter)
• Hungarian Goulash Soup (Hearty, spicy soup served with crusty bread)
• Chicken Saltimbocca Bruschetta (Grilled chicken breast gratinated with black forest ham and cheese, served with herb crème fraiche & golden French fries)
• Red Lentil and Chick Pea Stew (Aromatic and spicy served with Debreziner sausages)
• Ginger and Chili Chicken Salad (Chicken cubes grilled with garlic, chili & ginger. Served on crisp lettuce with coriander & lime dressing)
Fried coconut with sesame seeds
All of the dishes are prepared by gourmet chef Thomas Sinn himself, served in abundant portions and cooked and decorated in fine dining style. The Excelsior Sauvignon Blanc (Sinn’s house wine) is a versatile choice that goes especially well with all the chicken dishes. Thomas Sinn signs off every dish with his signature piece of fried coconut topped with black and white sesame seeds. It looks good, it tastes good and that’s it. There’s a little bit of Austria in the meals, but it’s more a modern contemporary cuisine with a variety of international influences.
Next to the special lunch menu, there’s also Sinn’s dinner special, offering you a choice of two starters, a meat or fish main and a dessert, paired with a glass of wine for R150.
Open from 09:00 until midnight, Sinn’s provides a full day’s culinary experience from breakfasts and light meals to beautiful lunches and fine dinners. The bar is a place where locals that live in and around Wembley Square hang out. There you can also get a good bargain on snacks on the weekends.
