A caracal spotted taking a lockdown stroll in Simon’s Town

The elusive creature made his way to the beach to terrorise some dassies

This week, a caracal took to the streets of Simon’s Town. The animal was spotted a few times by Simon’s Town resident Yolandé Oelsen, who managed to capture some incredible pics of the elusive creature.

WHILE THE HUMANS ARE AWAY, THE CAT WILL PLAY
The resident caracal slunk down the pavement before spending some time on the rocky beach, terrorising dassies.

“He came walking calmly down the road, into the undergrowth and appeared on the rocks across from us, chasing dassies, who loudly protested”, the Simon’s Town resident posted on Facebook.

LOCKDOWN MEANS BUSINESS AS USUAL FOR WESTERN CAPE WILDLIFE
Humans might be under lockdown, but certain other Capetonians have been enjoying life as usual, soaking up the last few sunny days before winter. From a family of Cape Foxes to Cape Mountain Leopards and even a dolphin super pod, there have been some truly magical moments with the Western Cape’s wildlife during lockdown.
