The recently opened Hyatt Regency Cape Town is a prime setting for an urban romantic caper. For Valentine's Day it's offering two fantastic specials – a 3-course romantic lunch or dinner, and a Valentine's overnight package. Lunch or dinner is by 126 Cape Kitchen & Café, the Hyatt Regency’s restaurant, with a menu by Keith Frisley, former executive chef of The Four Seasons in Johannesburg – Your date will be definitely wowed by the innovative menu (the kitchen is halaal, by the way). CHECK-OUT HOW ARTISTS ARE DECORATING CAPE TOWN’S STREETS
Over 20 local and international artists will line the streets with their large-scale, out-of-this-world artworks at the International Public Arts Festival (IPAF). Walk, run or cycle through the works of Dirty Native from Johannesburg, South African artist Buffy Braveart, Jennifer Erny from Brazil, Silas Miami from the Free State, Italian stencil artist Lucamaleonte and more. The murals are in and around Salt River, the city centre Waterfront and Sea Point. You can either see them independently or, if you'd like some insider knowledge, book a local tour guide (recommended) and send 100% of the proceeds straight to them for a Valentine’s Day out at the International Public Arts Festival.

CELEBRATE THE POOCH YOU LOVE
Valentine’s Day is about love in all shapes and forms. The Animal Welfare Society in Stellenbosch invites you and your pup for a Valentine’s Day walk. If you don’t have a furry friend, there will be shelter dogs on site who will be eager to go on a morning walk or run with you. You can take your pup out along the vineyards opposite the shelter; direction boards will indicate the route. Plus, to commemorate the special day, the premium package includes a 15-minute photoshoot with you and your pooch thanks to Boland Weddings.

LEARN TO COOK WITH YOUR FAVOURITE PERSON
If the way to a loved one’s heart is through their stomach, then a cooking class will be a thoughtful treat that will win you special brownie points. The Kitchen Collective has two Valentine’s Day cooking classes open not just to couples but friends, foodies and family, too. For dinner on 13 February, there’ll be canapés on arrival, as well as a refreshing shot of Gazpacho soup, and then participants will cook a three-course meal. For lunch on 14 February at the Peppermint Palace in Fresnaye, Denise Cowburn-Levy will walk you through one of her favourite dishes straight from her personal cookbook. This is one creative way to take your partner out for a self-made lunch or a romantic dinner for Valentine’s Day.

BOOK A ROMANTIC PICNIC IN THE ELGIN VALLEY
Picnics and sunsets are two classic Valentine’s Day ideas for good reason: they’re hella romantic. Out in the Hottentots-Holland mountains, Elgin Vintners is hosting a picnic sunset on their lawns. All you’ll need to bring is a picnic blanket, a pillow or two if you’d like and a sun hat or sunscreen. The picnic baskets and romantic ambience is taken care of. MAKE A WEEKEND OUT OF VALENTINE’S DAY
Why restrict your show of love to a single day? Cellars-Hohenort in Constantia makes a weekend of Valentine’s Day with a gourmet picnic for two in their gardens or vineyards. Each picnic basket has more than enough for you and your partner. There’s smoked fish paté, a baked vegetable quiche, lemon and rosemary roasted chicken quarters, artisanal cheese and homemade breads and more. For dessert, share scones with strawberry jam and butter. Whichever day you pick to have your Valentine’s picnic (Friday or Saturday) you could stay the night and have a double celebration.
