Challenge Yourself Or Run For Fun Along The Picturesque South Peninsula

Run through a national park and enjoy views of the Atlantic and False Bay

The Red Hill Marathon and Classic Road Race set off on Saturday, 25 January 2020. This annual event is organised by runners for runners and has been operating since 1975. It is also an official qualifier for the Two Oceans Marathon and Comrades Marathon.

CHOOSE AND CHANGE YOUR DISTANCE
If you are not ready for the full 42.2km Red Hill Marathon, you could opt for the  Classic Road Race at 36.2km. You can easily downgrade or upgrade your running distance mid-race by advising a marshal at the Red Hill split. There is also a 5km fun run starting at 7am.

THE TRULY SCENIC ROUTE
Starting from Fish Hoek Athletic Club, runners proceed past the Slangkop Lighthouse at Kommetjie and onwards through the picturesque Misty Cliffs and Scarborough. At the Red Hill split, the marathon runners will veer towards Cape Point for a 6km loop adjacent to the Cape Point National Park where they may be spot ostriches. The Classic Road Race runners will proceed over Red Hill, which has an average gradient of 6% and a maximum gradient of 14.7%. (The marathon runners will loop back to this stretch, too.)

All runners will join up on Simon’s Town’s Main Road at the end of Red Hill and continue towards the finish line at the Fish Hoek Athletic Club.

SUPPORTING AND SPECTATING
The best spectator spots are at the bottom of Red Hill, Glencairn beach, and the finish line at the Fish Hoek Athletic Club, of course. There will be food, cold drinks, coffee and beer on sale at the finish line. At the prize-giving ceremony, there are cash prizes for the winners and there will be a lucky draw for other spot prizes totalling R8000.

TAKING PART IN THE RED HILL MARATHON
Entry costs R170 and you can enter online. The fun run costs R30 and can be paid at the event. You’re able to use the entry platform to make a donation to Tears Animal Rescue or Volunteer Wildfire Services. For more information, contact the organisers directly on race@fishhoekac.com or +27(0)74 524 4842. There is secure parking at no cost at the Fish Hoek Athletic Club.
