This smoothie recipe from the Cookshop is a delicious way to get your daily nutrients
A smoothie is a delicious health choice that can be made by anyone, but it's especially beneficial for those that are run down or training hard. There is really no difference between a smoothie and a meal, only that the smoothie has been ‘pre-chewed’.
Banana Berry Smoothie
Courtesy Tom Sheehey, owner of the Cookshop
1 large, ripe banana
1 handful of blueberries (fresh is best but frozen are also fine)
Juice of one apple (or 100ml of apple juice from a carton)
200ml of plain yoghurt (preferably low fat, although full cream is also an option)
3-4 ice cubes
Honey to taste (omit if the fruit is very ripe)
Use a blender to smash the above ingredients up into liquid form. A good quality blender will allow you to blend all ingredients at once, whilst a lesser powered machine will prefer the liquids to go in first followed by the fruit.
Serve up in a chilled glass.
Variations include pineapple and papaya, raw seeds and nuts for protein and raw organic eggs for serious athletes.
