Green-thumbers and lovers of beautiful blooms are in for a real treat at the Rare Plant Fair at Rustenberg Wines in the idyllic Ida’s Valley on Saturday, 15 March 2014.
Thirty-six amateur and professional specialist growers will descend on the wine estate near Stellenbosch to sell bulbs, succulents, perennials and breathtaking flowers, like orchids, cycads and Japanese maples, to keen gardeners eager to take home and enjoy the colourful flora.
From the indigenous, like fynbos and aloe, to the slightly more exotic, like succulents from Madagascar, a range of plants will be on offer to appeal to all tastes, and even the most discerning of plant lovers will find something that will tickle their fancy.
Attendees will also get a chance to take a stroll through the Schoongezicht Garden, a gorgeous piece of land that was regenerated and restored by Rozanne Barlow, wife of the current owner of the Rustenburg Estate and the woman behind the idea of the fair. With free entry to the garden on the day, visitors can enjoy the serene landscape and its English garden staples, like roses, agapanthus, day lilies and many more, which come to life as the seasons change
Not to mention, the estate’s giant oak trees are perfect for sitting under and enjoying a cup of tea while taking a break from plant browsing, or you can take the opportunity to score a bottle or two of Rustenberg’s famous wine – there’s 10% discount offer for attendees. Side stalls will also have gardening paraphernalia, like organic compost and gardening accessories, for avid planters or those keen to get started; refreshments will also be on sale.
TICKETS FOR THE 2014 RARE PLANT FAIR
Tickets for the fair are available for R10p/p on the day and entry to the Schoongezicht Garden is free. The event starts at 9:30am and ends at 2:30pm.
