Perfect Pairing at Radisson Blu with Hillock Wines

Sip and swirl some sensational wines from Hillock Estate

On Thursday, 13 July 2017, the newly opened Radisson Blu Hotel & Residence will host its very first wine and food pairing experience. The extravaganza will be held at the Stratus Room and will features wines from Hillock Estate. Any foodie in Cape Town won’t want to miss this golden opportunity to get a taste of this Karoo estate.

The Hillock Wine Estate is located in the Klein Karoo region of South Africa. The warm climate makes for good wine country, and Hillock Wines have certainly benefitted from this. In an annual period, the estate only produces 16 tonnes of grapes, which is relatively small when compared to the likes of Groot Constantia. This is a true boutique estate, and the wines they produce always taste unique and artisan. Their range includes seven delicious wines; Big Harry, Shiraz, Mile High NV, Blanc de Noir, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc.

MENU AT THE 2017 PERFECT PAIRING AT RADISSON BLU WITH HILLOCK WINES

Course One:
Creamy Pea and Leek Soup
Wine Pairing: Hillock Penelope Anne MCC (soft bubbles)

Course Two:
Pan Seared Scallops with butternut puree, crispy pancetta and cumin foam.
Wine Pairing: Hillock Sauvignon Blanc (lingering taste)

Course Three:
Herb and Pistachio Crusted Venison Loin with polenta chips, parsnip puree and a red wine reduction
Wine Pairing: Hillock Shiraz (seductively red)

Course Four:
Layered Chocolate Mousse served in a mystical log
Wine Pairing: Hillock Fergalicious MCC (Shiraz driven)

The menu was designed and developed by Duncan Pontac, a chef at the Radisson Blu Hotel and Residence. A great deal of thought was put into the menu and they paid particular attention to how the flavours of the food compliment the flavours of the wine. Most of the wines, due to the climate that the grapes grow in, are quite robust in flavour; meaning that Chef Pontac needed to find strong flavours that work harmoniously with the wine selection.

Hillock Wines is not a name you see very often, so if you love wine, then this is the event for you this July! Wines from the Klein Karoo are well worth a sample, and why not do it at one of the newest hotels in the city?
