Fans are about to be (re) united with The Sweethearts of Soul, the American duo Peaches and Herb, for an evening of smooth, old-school RnB at Cape Town’s GrandWest Arena on Saturday, 4 May. It will be the group’s first time in the Mother City and an unforgettable evening for any of the Grammy-nominated performers’ groupies.
Most famous for their 1980 number-one smash single, ‘Reunited’, the band released their tenth album – the first since 1983 - just four years ago. “Colors of Love” features the indomitable Herb Fame, an original member of the duo, and the creamy, rich vocals of Wanda Tolsen, the most recent ‘Peaches’ since the group’s inception in 1967 (there’s been six different female vocalists in total).
Peaches and Herb’s official rise to mega-stardom came from the disco dance jam ‘Shake Your Groove Thing’ in 1979 on the gold album, “2 Hot”. The timeless ‘Reunited’ followed, and the rest is rhythm and soul music history. The soul duo, with their silky, baby-making music, can also take responsibility for many a romance and seduction.
Cape Town audiences can look forward to hearing classics like, ‘Close Your Eyes’, ‘Love is Strange’ and the wedding favourite, ‘I Pledge My Love’ delivered by the sweet honey harmonies of one of the most timeless acts in the world, and fans can rest assured that, even after 40 years of hit-making, Herb Fame still knows how to shake his groove thing.
