South Africa's best wines for 2008 have been announced in the form of the 2008 Veritas Awards results
The highest and most sought-after form of recognition of wine excellence in South Africa – the Veritas Awards – were announced on 11 October 2008.
Each year, the Veritas Awards Winners are widely accepted by the wine industry as being the best South African wines of that particular year.
The excellence of not only the wine, but also the winery and winemaker, is acknowledged.
The highest achievement for a Veritas Awards Winner is Double Gold status, followed by Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Attaining Double Gold recognition is notoriously difficult, and it is only a small selection of the very best South African wines that achieve this status.
