1. It’s your Cape Town. Your space. And your art. Connect with and see the spaces, people and art of your city through fresh eyes.
2. Curated by Jay Pather, director of the Gordon Institute for Performing and Creative Arts (GIPCA), this year’s Festival provides an invigorating mix that re-interprets the classics, brings home celebrated SA works, and launches exciting new talent.
3. Infecting The City is the largest and most diverse annual public arts festival in South Africa. It will present 32 artworks to Cape Town’s public.
4. The Festival celebrates artists from South Africa and around the world, such as local heavy weight, Nicola Hanekom who presents the acclaimed Lot and Victorine Müller from Zurich who presents Bodies in Light.
5. With all kinds of artistic interventions, installations and flash mobs scheduled by the Festival, who knows what you’ll see, hear and be part of.
6. Expect the unexpected: synchronised swimmers in the Long Street Baths, poetry falling from the rooftops in the CBD, and the dance of worship in the Company Gardens, this and so much more.
7. Can’t get away from work? Don’t worry, the festival continues into the night with a programme from 6pm. Read more here.
8. What is considered Public Art? Hear and be heard at the Public Art Policy Discussion lead by Zayd Minty (director of the Creative Cape Town initiative) and Festival curator, Jay Pather.
9. Catching the train? Catch a performance or two while you wait. The Station Forecourt is where it’s at. Click here to view the programme.
10. Best of all, it’s free and open to all Capetonians and her visitors.
