Spend Christmas at this colonial treasure and enjoy a complimentary three-course lunch
Looking for a last minute holiday special to sweeten the arrival of the festive season? Consider a scenic stay in the bosom of South African olive and wine country; the Royal Hotel in the charming pastoral town of Riebeek Kasteel is offering a complimentary three-course Christmas lunch with any two-night (or more) booking over the Christmas holiday (the reservation must include a stay on Tuesday, 25 December 2012).
To qualify for the lunch-accommodation special simply mention CapeTownMagazine.com at the time of booking.
Famed for both its magnanimous stoep – it’s the longest south of the Limpopo – and its hearty colonial roots – it’s licensed as the oldest hotel in the Western Cape – the country outpost whisks guests to a time long passed.
With a vast veranda coloured with old-world artefacts (think antique suitcases, bird cages, typewriters and more), sitting rooms that play host to venerable mahogany furniture and the kind of rambling grounds only linked to properties of old, the Royal invites visitors to unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life (preferably, with one of their signature gin and tonics in hand).
Despite a departure to a century of yesteryear though, the hotel offers all of the standard mod-cons expected by travellers of present: an appetising swimming pool, heated towel rails, sumptuous bedding and a fully-stocked mini-fridge.
What’s more, thanks to a restaurant well known in the area for its relaxed, upmarket, bistro-style flair, guests can look forward to an indulgent three-course Christmas lunch (on Tuesday, 25 December 2012) complete with all of the traditional trimmings.
“It’s an interpretation of some of our menu favourites mixed with the many of the much-loved festive season mainstays,” explains Head Chef Francois du Toit when quizzed about the menu offering.
