Scores of low- and middle-income earners are set to benefit from a pioneering multi-million rand social housing project to be launched by MEC for Housing Michael Mabuyakhulu and Ethekwini Mayor Obed Mlaba this Saturday.

The 1st to be delivered by the new Ethekwini Housing Association (ETHA), the project is a result of joint-commitment by the Ethekwini Municipality, the KwaZulu-Natal Housing Department, the National Housing Finance Corporation LTD developers and Motheo Group property development agents. It consists of 40 one-bedroom units and 108 two-bedrooms in 10 separate blocks. The entire site will be fenced off with one controlled access point. Residents' parking will be available with areas set aside for washing and maintenance of vehicles. The site will be landscaped and grassed, and children's play areas will be set up.

While the first units are scheduled for hand-over in July this year, the entire project is to be completed by October.

The government aims to develop a host of similar projects across the province.
