Lady Gaga concert in Cape Town 2012

The princess of pop set to serenade the Mother City

Gareth Cliff, 5FM and Big Concerts confirmed that Lady Gaga will bring the "Born This Way" concert to the Cape Town Stadium on 3 December 2012.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Tuesday, 19 June 2012 from Computicket.com ONLY; it's not possible to purchase tickets from physical Computicket outlets and call centres until 9am on Wednesday, 20 June 2012 (this date was recently changed, originally tickets from physical outlets and call centres were only scheduled to go on sale at 9am on Friday, 22 June 2012).

No golden circle tickets are available, seated tickets range from R515 to R615, and standing tickets start at a sweet R715.

Tickets are limited to eight per person, and little monsters should be sure to pre-register on the Computicket.com website in order to speed up the purchasing process.

Our calculations were correct, the following article was published on 16 June 2012.

We anticipated that 5FM and Big Concert’s big Monday morning (18 June 2012) announcement on the Gareth Cliff show would be, in fact, a confirmation that the modern day mother of pop music is Mzansi bound in less than two years time.

After the radio station, in partnership with the events company, released word on Friday, 15 June that a “BIG” act was set to grace South African shores, they promptly posted clues on their website to the band’s identity:

5FM clues to “#BIGANNOUNCEMENT”

  • five Grammy awards
  • 13 MTV awards
  • 23 million records sold
  • 64 million singles sold
  • five top 40 number one hits on 5FM.

In response, we at CapeTownMagazine.com gave our crystal ball a rub (we harnessed the power of the Interweb and asked Auntie Google), did a bit of detective work and generated what we believe is a fairly accurate hypothesis that Lady Gaga will be on her way to Cape Town in the future.

According to Wikipedia.com, the clues listed by 5FM align perfectly with the statistics accredited to the multi-award winning megastar. What’s more, according to a tour schedule leaked on the Internet, after hitting Australia, Asia and much of Europe in 2013, Lady Gaga will set out for SA to play shows in both Johannesburg and Cape Town in early 2014.

Though the unconfirmed schedule hasn’t been validated on the Haus of Gaga, the female vocalist’s official site, the coincidence is uncanny.

Not to mention, as host to a healthy population of teenage girls and gay men – the artist’s primary fan base, the Mother City would be an ideal locale.

Lady Gaga has released three albums to date: “The Fame”, “The Fame Monster” and “Born This Way”; has logged a handful of chart-topping hit singles: “Paparazzi”, “Poker Face”, “Just Dance”, “Bad Romance” and “Telephone”; and is, arguably, as famous for her music as she is for her ultra-eccentric guises: she wore a meat-dress to the 2010 MTV Music Awards and appeared as a guest on a German talk show in an outfit made completely of Kermit the Frog muppets.

Regardless of whether Gaga’s fame is rooted in art or artifice though, we’d love to see her rock the mother city in a onesie made from boerewors.

Stay tuned to find out if our suspicions were correct.
