Dave Matthews Band Concerts in South Africa

Famed jam band icons destined for Mzansi soil in 2013

The Grammy award-winning Dave Matthews Band (DMB) is confirmed to play two live concerts in South Africa in late 2013: the first show is scheduled to sound off at GrandWest in Cape Town on Saturday, 30 November, and the second is billed to strum to a start at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 3 December 2013.

The gigs mark the first time that the Mzansi-born lead singer, Dave Matthews, and his fellow bandmates will perform their brand of jazz, folk, rock and world music on South African stages.

Having rocketed to fame in the early 90s in  jam band-esque fashion – they allowed their fan base to circulate live recordings of their performances much like the Grateful Dead did – DMB soon found mainstream success with the release (1994) of their six-time platinum album, “Under the Table and Dreaming”.

Since then, the group has sold millions of albums, drummed up a heady reputation based on its largely improvisational live shows and headlined countless festivals over the course of its 20-year history.

Though the act's saxophonist, LeRoi Moore, passed away in 2008, the band has continued to push forward in new, adventurous directions. Their South African performances will include a special appearance by local singer-songwriter Vusi Mahlasela.
