'Creative World Cup' to offer so much more in South Africa

Design Indaba gears up for a fantastic year of creativity in 2010

In keeping with the hype of next year's FIFA 2010 World Cup, Design Indaba 2010 is positioning itself as the Creative World Cup.

The Design Indaba Conference will run from 24 to 26 February 2010 and the Design Indaba Expo from 26 to 28 February 2010 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The new designindaba.com portal will also launch later this year, featuring news and innovations from leading international and local designers.

More than 40 speakers, both local and from Lima, New York and Milan through to Shanghai, will offer a celebration of the creativity of the world. Early bird bookings for the conference open on 5 November 2009 and given the line-up, delegates are advised to start booking immediately as the conference has sold out every year for the past five years.

Having attracted almost 30 000 visitors in 2009, the expo is home to a winning national creative team. Curated by a panel of industry experts, it is claimed to be the only 100 percent South African celebration of the country's best creative talent across all the creative industries.

Stands at the Design Indaba 2010 will range from craft, product, industrial and fashion to film, animation, graphic, jewellery and architectural design.

The dedicated fashion ramp will again offer exclusive exposure to fashion exhibitors, while submissions for the film festival have already been opened to filmmakers. Stands for emerging creatives will again be sponsored by the Department of Arts and Culture, which have also been opened for applications.

As an early signup promotion, subscriptions to the Design Indaba magazine are being bundled with free online membership, offering access to the growing archive of past speaker videos, full magazine content, invitations to special workshops and seminars throughout the year and immediate access to the latest features as the site grows.

From music to fashion we bring you the best creative Cape Town has to offer.
