Cape Town Applauds Springboks All the Way

CapeTownMagazine.com shares some great pictures of the Springbok Victory Parade in Cape Town

Long Street in Cape Town almost burst at its seams in the carnival-like celebration today in anticipation of the World Cup Rugby 2007 Springbok Champions victory parade. Energy was high and the vibe festive with Capetonians cheering and dancing on any open balcony or piece of street they could find.

Waiter, Hank Sitoto, who watched from Metropole hotel, said “It’s the first time I have seen the Springboks live, and also the first time I have been so close to real Gold”, referring to the Webb Ellis Cup. Fellow waiter, Sivu Bingwa was just as excited to see his hero Brian Habana – his favorite Springbok player.

First time tourists in South Africa
, from Amsterdam, Simone Boskemper and friend Erszebet Weber, who arrived in Cape Town last night were astonished by the festivities and spirit that greeted them in Long Street. “It was very unexpected!”

Images we will remember
are “White for President, and Habana for Vice-President. Great visuals of “AmaBokke” and “ViVa Bokke” were also visible everywhere. We added some pictures to the article. Mail us your best images: info@capetownmagazine.com!

When the Springbok Bus entered Long Street, the noise from the crowd was overwhelming and deafening – pretty much the same as when the final whistle blew declaring the Boks the champions of the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

What started as a normal Monday morning in Cape Town ended being a spectacular show of South Africans uniting behind the Springboks in flashes of green and cold, filling Long Street with thousands of proud supporters.

The final stop of the Springbok Victory Parade is Newlands Stadium, where the RWC Champions – The Springboks – will hand over the Webb Ellis Cup to the big bosses of South African Rugby for safekeeping. It’s wonderful that the Cup is kept in South Africa’s Mother city.

Molo says: "Watch our great movie on the South African National Anthem with 'goose bump' sound bites from the '95 Rugby World Cup."
