With affordable beer and fabulous festivals, the Mother City wins over the youths
Last Update 24 April 2017
Millennials, the population group aged between 18 and 30-years-old, considers Cape Town one of their favourite place in the world to visit. A recent analysis conducted by Nestpick - the European aggregator of furnished apartments used by students - revealed the top 100 millennial-friendly cities globally. The Mother City is the only African destination to make the list and has ranked 77th on the leaderboard.
For the list standard measurements such as openness, tolerance, affordability, employment, transportation as well as nightlife, LGBT-friendliness and access to beer and festivals for the target demographic were all analysed. An assessment of the city’s technological advancements was also done by measuring the Apple stores per capita, showing the engagement of the city’s technology and investors.

The ranking focuses on aspects that affect the millennial generation. With Cape Town ranking 77th, it shows that as a city we are well-liked around the world for our youth-friendly perks - let's face it Capetonians; we have cheap, delicious beer and people love us for it!
We also scored well on our gender equality practices, having affordable food, plenty of music festivals and large number of start-up companies. According to Nestpick the top ten cities for millennials are; Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Lisbon, Antwerp, Barcelona, Lyon, Cologne, Paris, and Vancouver.
