New Year's Day: kick off the New Year fresh today

You might not want to leave your bed on New Year’s Day, but there are a few fun things happening in Cape Town you could miss out on. Whether you’re looking for a family picnic or a brunch buffet to beat your hangover, we’ve found some great events to suit any 1 January mood.

ADMIRE SWEEPING VIEWS OF THE CITY 

The Park Inn by Radisson has sweeping views of the city from it's rooftop bar. Harald's is open from 11am to 11pm, which means you can bring in the new year with a morning mimosa or afternoon sundowners. Or, at the RBG Bar & Grill downstairs, you can come for an a la carte breakfast: the kitchen is open from 6:30am.

GO TO (ANOTHER) FESTIVAL 

Still in the party mood? Rich and Famous, thrown by Altitude Beach, will be held at the completely-revamped events venue The Ostrich Cape Town. Internationally-renowned Oxlade will be headlining. Known for his R&B and Afrobeats sound, you couldn't spend the first day of 2023 in a vibier way. Check out his hit "Away": 



 

PICNIC IN A VINEYARD 

At Klein Roosboom in Durbanville, you can picnic in the vineyard. Stop at the deli shop and stock up on sandwiches, bowls, coffee and sweet treats before setting up your picnic blanket between the vines or on the lush lawns. Plus, you can taste wine in a cave.

BE ENTERTAINED BY BALLET

Settle into the comfy cushioned seats at The Labia and prepare for a few hours of soothing classical music. Audiences will be treated to Peter Wright’s The Nutcracker, performed at the Royal Opera House. This classic story follows Clara and the Nutcracker as they fight against the Mouse King.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF WITH AN ESCAPE GAME

Hint Hunt is open on New Year’s Day and you can play exciting escape games from 11am. The games include problem and puzzle solving and offer a series of themed rooms for you to choose from. Teams can be between 2-6 people and the price ranges from R590-R1 650. This is a fun way to start challenging yourself from day one of 2022. Book your next adventure now
