Nelson Mandela Videos: Madiba’s greatest film moments

We’ve collected the 20 best Mandela moments caught on tape

Last Update 12 June 2017

Nelson Mandela, affectionately called Madiba by many, has become a human rights icon not only in South Africa but all around the globe. His famed ability to struggle through the adversity that often accompanies the fight for justice, yet still forgive freely makes him one of the most inspiring people the world has ever known.

To pay homage to this father of South African democracy and the one year anniversary of his passing, we took a look through his remarkable life as well as through the reflections of those—including his wife Graça Machel, Desmond Tutu, First Lady Michelle Obama and former Springbok François Pinaar—who have been personally touched by his nation-altering work.  Many of the videos are prominent stepping stones in the beloved revolutionary’s political career, including his first national interview and his election to presidential office, while others merely display the soft-spoken yet steely resolve of the one and only Mzansi icon.
