Vocalist and songwriter Sima Mashazi has spent the past two years, in Cape Town, New York and St. Louis, portraying Miriam Makeba in a musical about her life. Critics have said she is perfect for the role of embodying this legend because of the “clarity and sweetness in her voice”.
This year she takes her performance to Wordfees, an annual festival dedicated to art, poetry, stories, live music and performances. It takes place in Stellenbosch in March. On Monday, 5 and Saturday, 10 March, Mashazi will transform into Mama Africa to bring you songs such as Phatha Phatha and Suliram while also performing her own music inspired by the late songstress. For 70 minutes, enjoy the themes in Makeba’s music and life for one epic trip down memory lane.
TICKETS TO MY MIRIAM MAKEBA STORY
Tickets are available via online.computicket.com and cost R135/p to R150/p. On Monday, 5 March the musical starts at 6pm until 8pm and on Saturday, 10 March it starts at 8:30pm until 10:30pm.
