Chill and feast on a busy Nyanga street
Mkhululi Nomganga and Veliswa Dywili are the couple whose names – and hearts – are behind MV Meat Lounge, the new tshisa nyama on the bustling, shop-lined Sithathu Avenue in Nyanga East.
WHERE TO MEAT
The location is the perfect meeting point where families and friends gather, which is exactly what the owners were trying to achieve when they found two disused shops converted them into one space.
Residents from Nyanga East, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha love MV Meat Lounge because it’s easily accessible and on the taxi and bus route. It’s a laid back lounge with an outdoor area with umbrellas for sunny days and a stretch tent for cold weather – more heaters (and blinds for warmer weather) are on their way for the outdoor area. Sometimes locals DJs come to play.
WHAT’S ON THE MENU?
Choose from mince or chicken liver with vetkoek or salad, or beef or chicken kebabs for starters at R30–R35. The sticky barbecue wings and grilled pork chops served with salsa salad, and pap or fries for R40, are popular with locals. Mogodu (tripe) and dumpling or umleqwa (free-range chicken) and veg for R40–R60.
SATURDAY SPECIAL
Soul Food Saturday, which happens twice a month, includes specials on ribs and fries, plus the chef whips up whatever traditional cuisine he’d like to serve. Give MV Meat Lounge a try; there’s a garden party on 10 August to celebrate Women’s Month.
