CODA Launch New Album

The second album from popular Cape Town band Coda, entitled African Renaissance, has been launched

CODA is a versatile fusion band that has been causing quite a stir in Cape Town in recent times, and the release of their second album – African Renaissance, recorded with renowned producer and song-writer Gabi Le Roux – should see them gaining even more fans.

The album was launched in swinging style at a packed Cape Quarter in De Waterkant on 28 November 2008, and the band certainly didn't have a problem in getting the audience onto the dancefloor and moving to their suave sounds.

What a fantastic evening it was. If Cape Town could have three or four more live music venues that regularly host parties like this one, South African music would be given a huge boost.

The first offering from CODA's groundbreaking new album has immediately gained popularity on South Africa’s airwaves and dance floors.

Since October 2008, CODA’s new single It’s Still the Music has been all over the airwaves across the nation on many of the major radio stations.

Described as one of the most exciting and ground-breaking new acts to grace local and international stages in recent years, their distinctive sound gained immediate popularity amongst an astonishingly broad range of audiences.

CODA’s diversity has resulted in a new style of South African music that appeals to audiences from Soweto to Paarl, from Gugulethu to Bloemfontein and from Dubai to the Seychelles.

Coda is a unique collaboration between vocalist Yolanda Yawa, electric cellist Carol Thorns, saxophonist Judy Brown, electric violinist Cristina Chiselev, dancer and backing vocalist, Amanda Martins, and House DJ Nick Matthews.

CODA was a finalist in the 2008 Best of Cape Town Awards under the category ‘Performing Artists’ alongside Freshly Ground, and was nominated as one of the country’s top five bands in the 2006 Top Billing/Lifestyle Awards.

The band has entertained some of the country’s most eminent celebrities, business people and politicians, and their music has been known to get some of South Africa’s leading figures on the dance floor.

CODA performed at FW de Klerk’s 70th birthday and was requested, personally, by Desmond Tutu to perform at his own 75th birthday event.
