Food for all: vegans, Keto, banting, gluten-free or wholesomely hungry
Last updated: 15 September 2022
Kanela Café is quickly becoming the most popular breakfast spot in Sea Point. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, Keto, banting, gluten-free or just plain hungry, it will have something delicious – and healthy – you’ll enjoy. Ingredients are super-fresh, the coffee is roasted in Uganda and, bonus, pets are allowed. So come, Kanela Café is ready to host you.

Kanela Café brings us delicious and healthy vegan and vegetarian options and a great vibe, too. The story starts with the sustainable coffee it serves. It’s sourced from a local, family-owned coffee company in Uganda.

Then we must talk about the food. From the avo toast with beetroot hummus to an Abundance Bowl, it will have your tastebuds dancing. The menu is perfectly suited for vegans and non-vegans alike. Try the vegan and gluten-free choc-chip flapjacks for brunch or dig in to a classic Mac n Cheese (also vegan) for lunch.

The space is simply beautiful. There’s a cozy sitting area with couches inside and a light, airy courtyard that feels private and tucked away from the busy main road the restaurant is situated on. It’s a great space to plug in your laptop and get some work done while enjoying coffee and a delicious meal. You can also bring your furry friends along.

The owners are siblings Viron and Corina Protoulis. They come from a restaurant family and have been in the hospitality industry most of their lives. Kanela Café is the latest of a group of family-owned restaurants that include City Grill Steakhouse, in the V&A Waterfront, and The Greek Fisherman, in Sea Point. So it’s no surprise that when you step into Kanela Café you experience hospitality that feels like it transitions you from customer to family.
