Dragging yourself (as well as a disgruntled companion, perhaps) around the shops for hours on end can be, well, a drag. To find the perfect present for someone important to you, or that certain kind of something for your home - a collection of quirky plates, a crocheted blanket - that you feel will truly express you, is no easy feat, and the options for where to look can feel limited. This month from Thursday, 1 June until Sunday, 4 June 2017, make your massive hunting mission a smaller and enjoyable one and head to Cavendish Square Mall in Claremont to the Made in the Cape June Artisan Market which is set out inside the mall.

The artisan markets which happen at the mall every month are the perfect place to look for that unique little gift to give to your friend or loved one, or if you just love perusing stalls with beautiful crafts, decor and tasty bites to eat! Everything is handmade, of the highest quality, and has been produced in the Cape, so it’s a real showcase of some of the talented craftspeople, designers and culinary whizzes we have here. The well-organised set up makes looking around super easy too if you’re short of time or looking to buy something specific.
From delicate jewellery pieces to knitted dolls to candle holders crafted from recycled wine bottles, there’s no end of originality to be found at a Made in the Cape Artisan Market. You will find the stalls inside the mall, fringing the escalator circle on both the ground and first floors - just walk right in with no hassle. So come have a peek at the event that shows you one-offs instead of knock-offs.

If you or someone you know have got a flair for all that is crafty or a knack for making yummy treats, you can also become an exhibitor at the Made in Cape Artisan Markets and sell handmade bespoke or tasty items yourself. Simply send low-resolution images of your goods to Made in the Cape via their email address. They will consider only goods that are handmade in the Cape. Please be advised that new jewellery applications are not being considered for the moment.
ENTRY TO THE 2017 JUNE MARKET AT CAVENDISH SQUARE IN CLAREMONT
There is no entry fee to the June Market, as the stalls are open all around the mall and totally accessible to everybody. As Capetonian stallholders might say to you as you pass by curios they are selling, looking is free! The only things you’ll want to bring your pennies for are the eye-catching trinkets and beautiful food goodies; they might just look too good to resist buying!
