Sunday Jazz and Cheese Fondue at Delheim

There’s no comfort food quite like a hot, melty cheese fondue

Take up your fondue forks and dip into a pot of Swiss cheese-y indulgence at Delheim Wine Estate on Sunday, 6 August 2017. This marvellous melted cheese affair will be accompanied, as the event’s name states, by bands performing soulful jazz – all of this in the winery’s cosy cellar. It’s the perfect way to spend a lazy wintry Sunday.

If you are unfamiliar with fondue, picture this: just-baked bread and vegetable fingers dipped into wine and brandy melted cheese, bubbling in a steaming pot. This traditional Swiss phenomenon is as much a sociable feasting ritual as it is a delicious dish. What is more, Delheim prepares it using an authentic Swiss recipe.

Upon arrival, the good folks at Delheim will welcome you with a warm glass of spiced glühwein to thaw you. Afterwards you will be free to dip vegetable slices and freshly-baked baguette into melting pots of an emmental, gruyere and white wine cheese sauce until you’ve had your fill. You’ll also be able to order starters and desserts off the à la carte menu here (although the price is not included in the day’s ticket).

Delheim Wine Estate is a family-owned winery that has been running for generations and is positioned just below the picturesque Simonsberg Mountain. They produce a wide range of wines, many of which are frequent award winners. In 2016 over 12 wines won awards, including their 2013 Merlot and Vera Cruz Shiraz. To showcase the pride of their work, Delheim offers activities such as wine tasting and regular wine and food pairing events, which take place in their atmospheric cellar. The cellar is snug with a low ceiling. Aromatic wine barrels and rustic candlelit tables making for a cosy, intimate atmosphere in which to sip on high-quality wine.

The vino is also part of the bargain on the day, and the perfect accompaniment to savoury fondue. Add in some tuneful jazzy sounds and you’re sure to forget all about the low temperatures outside as you relax with your friends and family.
