Zorgvliet Wine Estate celebrates a successful harvest with an harvest festival

Zorgvliet Wine Estate in the beautiful BanhoekValley near Stellenbosch will be celebrating a successful harvest with a second harvest festival on Saturday, 8 April 2006.

The harvest festival will provide wine lovers and enthusiasts with the unique opportunity of becoming part of one of the most exciting periods on any working wine farm - the harvest. Visitors to the harvest festival will be able to gain first-hand knowledge of the intricate process involved in the art of winemaking. Everyone will meet up at 15h00 at Zorgvliet's picnic area and the festival will start at 15h30 when they will be given access to the vineyards to cut their own grapes from a block that has been specially earmarked by Zorgvliet's winemaker, Neil Moorhouse. The Zorgvliet viticultural staff will be on-hand to show guests how to harvest the grapes.

Then follows the intriguing stage during which guests will actually be instrumental in making their own wine. Visitors will be shown to the state-of-the-art Zorgvliet cellar, which was completed two years ago to assist with the sorting and destalking process. The fun escalates from here when guests will be able to press their own grapes in huge barrels. The juice will then be poured into the maturation barrels for maturation. All visitors to the festival will receive two bottles of specially labeled wine after a suitable maturation period.

After all the hard work, guests can sit back and relax under the ancient oak trees at the Zorgvliet picnic area and enjoy a spitbraai and live entertainment.
