We love four-letter words, and so does Heineken, it seems. Why else would the mega beer brand throw two of our favourite terms, ‘free’ and ‘jazz’, together as part of not one, but two awesome competitions.
What are we on about? The famous Dutch brewing company is both giving away two tickets to the Saturday evening slot of the sold-out 2015 Cape Town International Jazz Festival AND challenging lucky festival-goers who already have tickets to score the chance to win a VIP trip to Canada to attend the incredible 10-day Montreal International Jazz Festival, which is set to take place from Friday, 26 June to Sunday, 5 July 2015.

WIN A VIP TRIP FOR TWO TO THE 2015 MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL
As the long-standing sponsor of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Heineken is inviting all attendees to visit its designated booth at the event to engage in a competitive session of scat singing. For those not in the know, scatting is a form of improvisation that sees a singer belt out a series of nonsensical syllables and sounds to produce melodies as though their voice was an instrument. If you’re still unsure about this practice, watch famous jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald scat below.
It’s a tricky technique that requires a good dose of creativity, but then we South Africans are an innovative bunch, so some great results are likely to come out of the process. Not to mention, considering the prize at stake, it’s well worth it to give a little impromptu bee-bopping a go.
The Montreal International Jazz Festival is renowned as the world’s largest jazz event: it features over 3000 artists from 30 different countries who perform in a wide range of indoor and outdoor venues from midday to midnight for 10 days solid. Needless to say, if you’re a fan of all things sultry and soulful, you’ll likely never attend a more memorable affair.
So, it’s win-win all round, and at the very least you’re in for a premium musical experience and a whole heap of fun.
How to enter:
1) Visit Heineken’s scat booth at the 2015 Cape Town International Jazz Festival and register with the representatives here (they’ll require your name and contact details).
2) Give scat singing your best go.
3) Listen out for the announcement of the winner at the end of the day on Saturday (if you’re not going to be present at the festival at this time, then keep an eye on Heineken South Africa’s social media channels).
4) Wait for a Heineken representative to contact you with details of the prize.
5) Enjoy your trip for two to Montreal.
