Every Thursday The Galileo Open Air Cinema sets up at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens to show movies – classic and new – with Table Mountain as the backdrop. The movie is timed to start as the sun sets, giving cinema-goers a double treat. It's a delightful way to ease into the weekend.

THE GARDENS ARE A PERFECT SETTING 

The Galileo Open Air Cinema celebrates 10 years of movie magic this year and it's always evolving, finding more scenic venues to show outdoor movies. Kirstenbosch is Cape Town’s largest, most popular garden and is the ideal setting, with impressive views from any vantage point. You can order food from the stalls at the venue and picnic while watching movies such as Mean Girls and Free Guy. Doors open at 6pm, so get there early to reserve your seat and explore the food options

YOU CAN ORDER FOOD AND WINE

You’ll be spoilt for choice of food options. Order pizzas or fresh shawarmas and pita breads with beef, chicken or falafels ((halaal and vegetarian options are available). You can even order drinks from Tipsy Gypsy, plus there’s coffee, tea and sodas, and, of course, popcorn. But if you prefer, you can bring your own picnic to the movie party.

If you’re looking for the perfect date-night idea, The Galileo Open Air Cinema has introduced a Double Delight Ticket for 2, which includes reserved front-row seats, blankets and backrests, and popcorn, smarties and fruit pastilles for two. So why not take your date to The Galileo Open Air Cinema Picnic Thursdays and Sundays at Kirstenbosch, Friday nights at various locations around the city and Saturdays in the Cape Winelands? They'll be well delighted.

If you and your date prefer your experiences fancy, then every First Wednesday of the month, there’s The Galileo Royale.
