When the Vergenoegd Löw Wine Estate say that their Saturday market on 3 February is a family affair they really mean that it is for the whole family… because dogs are welcome too on the day (and of course dogs are family).
In fact, pooches are one of the primary reasons you don’t want to miss this event. While the Family Market at this popular wine farms happens every Saturday, the one on 3 February presents a Doggy Walk where visitors are invited and encouraged to pay R20 to take a dog from the Township Animal Rescue – Helderberg (TAR) organisation for a walk. The kind folks at TAR will be bringing some of the dogs in their care to the market for a stroll. All money raised from walking the TAR pooches will go to this good cause.
You’re also more than welcome to bring your own dog for a walk. The cost for that is R10 per dog. Depending on your dog’s (and your own!) fitness level, there is the option to do either a 3km or 5km trail through the vineyards on the property.
MORE ABOUT THE MARKET
It’s also a family event in the sense that there is something for everybody – think food, drinks, crafts and clothing. And that’s without mentioning the festive atmosphere! The market starts at 9am on Saturdays and carries on well into the afternoon, with a live band playing from 11am to 3pm.
