This beautiful exhibition captures images of skin adorned with tattoos as seen under water at the Sea Point swimming pool. Monsters, men, animals and other designs take on a new personality as they’re morphed by ripples, light and the lens.
The exhibition by French photographer Laurence Savary will be on display at the Sea Point library from Monday, 11 April until the end of May. People photographed for the display come from diverse backgrounds, including the Cape Flats, Gugulethu, the CBD, and various countries overseas. All of this contributes to the overall theme – the beauty of skin and the human body.
If you were a mermaid and could spend the day beneath the surface, watching people float by, this exhibition provides a taste of what you’d see: a veritable feast of mammals, birds, words and other creatures and creations swimming past – an “underwater natural park of skin designs.”
Having travelled around Cape Town, this exhibit is as fluid as its subject matter, so catch it quickly before it moves to the next location. Dive into stories of skin and experience the serenity and splendour of our world through water.
THE UNDERWATER EXHIBITION VIEWING TIMES AT THE SEA POINT LIBRARY
The exhibition is free to view and the Sea Point Library’s opening hours are as follows:
If you’re keen to experience the Sea Point Pool and Pavilion for yourself, it’s open every day from 7am until 7pm.
