‘Please darling, don’t you cry. Let’s just kiss and say goodbye.’ If you love old-school rhythm and blues or soul, then chances are you’ve heard these heartfelt lyrics being blasted out of a sound system near you. And now you can rejoice because The Manhattans, the legendary crooners responsible for that memorable chorus, are performing with Mi Casa, The Soil and more at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Saturday, 10 January 2015 as part of their Soulful Sounds Tour.
Despite the recent loss of two founding members (Edward ‘Sonny’ Bivins and Winfred ‘ Blue’ Lovett), The Manhattans have remained one of the all-time most popular R&B groups around, with a career spanning over four decades and with a fan base made up of multiple generations. Founded in the 1960s, the group has undergone many line-up changes over the years, but their hits have remained evergreen. Some of the most popular tunes include the 1976 ballad ‘Let’s Kiss and Say Goodbye’ and the 1980 hit ‘Shining Star’.
Fans can look forward to material from this legendary group’s extensive discography and to getting down to some old-school cool.
Presenting a groovy night out, The Manhattans will be supported by some of our very own local talent, like award-winning groovers Mi Casa, a capella group The Soil and deckwreckers DJ Tbo Touch and DJ Sbu.
In short, you can be assured that dancing until your feet hurt will most certainly be on the agenda at this eight-hour shindig!
