Celebrate the summer sun with a family-friendly day of horse racing at Kenilworth Racecourse

Horse racing in Cape Town is synonymous with summer, and what better way to enjoy the glorious sun in the Mother City than with a day at the Kenilworth Racecourse? Luckily, the third annual Grand Parade Cape Guineas Gr1 race day gallops onto Cape Town’s festive season schedule with an afternoon of entertainment fit for the whole clan on Saturday, 17 December 2016.

Largely regarded as one of the most prestigious three-year-old thoroughbred event on the calendar, the challenge also makes a point of pairing fine horses with family-friendly activities.

This year’s meet will have a Christmas theme, and attendees are encouraged to don their most festive attire for a day of charity fundraising, Christmas-themed fun and so much more.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2016 GRAND PARADE CAPE GUINEAS HORSE RACING DAY AT KENILWORTH RACECOURSE

HORSE RACING – THE SPORT OF KINGS: Billed as one of the finest horse racing happenings of the season, the Cape Guineas Day affords racing purists the opportunity to see fine three-year-old horses dash to the finish line in ten races. The main race offers a stake of R1 million, and equestrian enthusiasts can go for gold and win big by betting on these majestic creatures’ ability on the track. Aside from the million rand race, there will also be the prestigious Premier Trophy race that is a traditional qualifier for The Met.

FESTIVE FAMILY-FRIENDLY FUN IN THE SUN: A host of family-centric activities will also take place at this grand event. Moms, pops, teens and kiddies alike can take part in a variety of things to do, such as enjoy a picnic at the Public Village, meet Santa Clause, browse The Vineyard Oval Christmas market for gifts, and let loose with special kids' entertainment such as jumping castles.

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT AND TASTINGS: Apart from the selection of on-site food vendors, patrons can also enjoy an afternoon of festive décor and a front-row seat to the galloping horses. There’ll be a cash bar on site, along with various top-notch food trucks. For a VIP experience, book a table in the Somerset Room and tuck into a hearty Christmas-themed buffet lunch for R275p/p. A CHARITABLE EVENT: This year, attendees in the Peninsula Room will donate their time and goodwill to raise funds for the Dr Hassen Adams foundation.
