The latest exhibition at Gallery MOMO comes to us from Florine Demosthene, the American-born Haitian national. Her very first solo exhibition in Cape Town will be presented in our lovely city from Thursday, 5 May to Saturday, 18 June 2016.
Her recent exhibition in Johannesburg, titled The Capture, explores the notion of the female as the heroine, where she depicted herself in various narratives and positions. Her subject is the black female form, with herself featuring in her artworks.
The exhibition in Cape Town follows on from her Johannesburg show, with the theme shifting from ‘capture’ to ‘bursting’. The Burst explores the notions of the black female form, and the stereotypes attached to it.
In psychology terms, ‘bursting’ alludes to the idea of removing a behaviour by refusing to recognise and reinforce it. Demosthene aims to banish any misconceptions in a provocative and enticing exhibition where the female form is heroed.

Gallery MOMO is open from 9am to 5pm on Monday to Friday. On Saturday, the gallery is open from 10am to 2pm, and is closed on Sundays.
