The wondrous Western Cape winelands are the backdrop for many a great off-road cycling and running events, and with good reason. The jagged mountains and rolling hills covered in rows of grape vines offer the perfect terrain for these sports, making them tough but beautiful enough to enjoy in the process.
One such event that shows off this landscape is the Standard Bank Duo Challenge at Boschendal Wine Farm, taking place on Saturday, 23 July 2016. This MTB and trail run challenge offers competitors the option of tackling the farm’s stunning single track on a bicycle saddle, on foot, or with a combination of the two.
There are two routes to choose from for this event. Those who wish to saddle up before taking part in the run can complete a longer 25-km ride or a shorter 10-km route. The longer route also comprises a 10-km trail run, whereas the short challenge only has a 5-km run. Those who prefer not to take part in the MTB component can complete a 25-km trail run, a 10-km trail run, or a 5-km Fun Run/Walk.
Not only does your entry allow you to enter the challenge, but all the proceeds will be given to the Banhoek Conservancy. Feel free to stick around after the event and enjoy a spot of wine tasting on the estate, or explore the surrounding Stellenbosch scenery.
