Burning rubber, busty girls, fans with their mouths agog at tearing hot wheels and enough Red Bull to fly an airplane, yes, you’ve guessed it; it’s The Red Bull F1 Show. These racing beauties were last seen at Kyalami at the Top Gear festival where the Red Bull F1 cars tore around the track. Now on March 27 these same cars will be spinning donuts at the Killarney Race Track in Table View.
CapeTownMagazine.com was given wings to visit the Red Bull pit at the Top Gear Festival and interview Formula 1 legend David Coulthard, the reserve driver and ambassador for the Red Bull Formula 1 Racing Team.
“The spectacle was absolute mayhem,” says Marc Zandhuis (MD CapeTownMagazine.com). “There was David Coulthard racing the F1 car, doing donuts right in front of the pit lane. It was beyond comprehension. Every Formula 1 fan dreams of the sheer enjoyment of being up so close.”
Now it’s your turn this Saturday. To help you on your way we’ve compiled ten unique bits of information that you won’t want to miss.
1.) Neel Jani will be the driver in Cape Town Red Bull F1 show car run.
2.) Each car has seven members per team.
3.) A fire extinguisher is the one piece of equipment the team say they cannot live without. If the engine overheats there’s only 45 seconds until it starts to smoulder.
4.) The car can reach speeds of 320kph
5.) There are three Red Bull F1 teams: a race team, a test team and a show car team.
6.) At any one event they bring 4.5 tons of spares and equipment, a spare engine, tyres, general car spares, generators, garage set up and equipment.
7.) The engine is a Cosworth Racing TJ 2006 series 14.
8.) Glen Dell will be making an appearance, think plane vs. F1 car and so will Reddy D with his squad of drift cars.
9.) The car's maximum engine speed is 16,700 rpm
10.) Make sure to catch the after party at Doodles on the beachfront. Look out for Red Bull drinks’ specials.
There are a number of awesome side acts which will make for a great event, details to be confirmed on the day. Bring a picnic basket, a chair and your camera cause you don’t want to miss this one!
