Once-in-a-lifetime exhibition of Esther ...
On from February to August 2024; 100+ artworks
Know your cadenza from your aria? Then you’ll be happy to hear that Cape Town Opera in association with the UCT Opera School will put on the first ever local performance of American composer Dominick Argento’s Postcard From Morocco at the Artscape Theatre from Wednesday, 19 to Sunday, 23 November 2014.
Inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s collection of poetry called A Child’s Garden of Verses, this opera had its debut in 1971 and went on to become a huge success all around the world. The opera takes place in a train station with several strangers all waiting to depart. Each character reveals their background but refuses to explain what’s inside their own personal luggage. The opera takes an interesting turn when the puppetmaster (who resides inside the train station) makes his appearance.
Mother City opera fans are in for a treat, seeing some of UCT’S Opera and the Cape Town Opera’s up-and-coming soloists display their talents on stage.
