When the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that's amore...at Festa restaurant every Thursday night. What’s to love? Well, first of all, the price: for just R80 diners can tuck into any pizza of their choice paired with a glass of local Wellington wine.
Reason number two? The wood-fired, thin-crust pizzas themselves. At Festa, the chef’s sole focus is on the pizza-making, so you can imagine the attention to detail. Expect bubbly, charred bases topped with seasonal ingredients and homemade chutneys, preserves and pickles. The house speciality is the Festa Feast, which comes loaded with chicken, bacon, peppadews, spinach, garlic, mushrooms and avocado (it certainly lives up to its name). There’s definitely a sense of humour here. Try the Stinkbekkie with Parma ham, fig and blue cheese, or if you’re of the vegetarian persuasion, go for the Hippy, a vegetable serenade of butternut, beetroot, aubergine, feta and artichokes.
The third thing to love is the setting. Part of Kleinevalleij Estate, the restaurant is housed in a converted barn. Festa embraces the quirky and the cool, while still remaining elegant. The outside stoep looks out onto mesmerising views of vineyards and mountains, demanding you kick back and slow down. It’s just the place for a relaxed first date, a romantic second or a catch up with good friends.
There’s one more thing to love. The restaurant team’s warm Wellington hospitality.
Try something different this Thursday and head to Wellington’s wine region for an affordable night out in the most spectacular venue. If you’re not keen to drive home, Kleinevalleij offers farm-style accommodation in picturesque country cottages surrounded by guava orchards—plus, you then get to enjoy Festa’s delicious breakfast the next morning.
