One of South Africa’s most successful musical exports, alternative rock band Seether will be in Cape Town to put on an intimate, unplugged performance at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden on Friday, 22 November 2013. The gig is part of a national tour that includes a stop in Durban and a headlining slot at the Parklife Festival in Johannesburg as well.
The post-grunge three-piece outfit – the current line-up includes Shaun Morgan on lead vocals and guitar, Dale Stewart on bass and American John Humphrey on drums – first broke into the South African and international music market in 2002 with the dark yet anthemic hit ‘Fine Again’ from the album “Disclaimer”. And they have been touring practically ever since, connecting with fans all over the world and producing songs strong enough to be featured in movie soundtracks and video games. Shaun’s gravelly voice is instantly recognisable, as are the band’s alternative metal guitar rhythms, and their signature sound has given rise to a number of memorable songs, including ‘Broken’ featuring vocals by Amy Lee from Evanescence and the two hits, ‘Fake It’ and ‘Rise Above This’, from the group’s best-selling record to date, 2007’s “Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces”.
The crew celebrated a decade of music making with the release of a greatest hits double album in late October 2013. The rock ‘n’ roll retrospective features the band’s top singles, including 11 number ones, as well as three new songs, live tracks and a few rare recordings.
Now, local fans can look forward to hearing many of these top tunes played in the one-of-a-kind setting of Kirstenbosch. With six albums and a number of well-deserved accolades from across the globe under their belt, Seether is certainly a national treasure, and Capetonians can rest assured that the intimate evening with the trio is going to be one special show. Not to mention, concert-goers can also get excited to watch an unplugged set by Cape Town’s very own, Taxi Violence, who will open for the band.
