Once-in-a-lifetime exhibition of Esther ...
On from February to August 2024; 100+ artworks
Forget the winter chill and let the familiar songs and intriguing love triangles of the much-loved musical Oklahoma! warm your heart and charm your soul. The production is on stage at the Artscape Theatre from Saturday, 19 July to Sunday, 3 August 2014.
Billed as one of the most important and influential musicals of the 20th Century, the Rogers and Hammerstein classic is set in the Oklahoma territory in the early 1900s and tells the story of the complicated relationships between farm girl Laurey Williams and cowboy Curly McLain on the one hand, and Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancée Ado Annie on the other. Laurey can’t shake the intimidating Jud, with whom she promised to go to the box social to make Curly jealous, while Ado Annie is torn between her genuine love for both Will and Ali Hakim, a Persian peddler.
These twisted tales are punctuated with the spectacular singing and dancing that has made Oklahoma! the universally acclaimed, multi award-winning production that it is, and audiences can expect to hear favourites like ‘Oh, What a Beautiful Morning’, ‘People Will Say We’re in Love’ and ‘I Can’t Say No’. The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra will be accompanying the talented local cast, making for an all round magical evening with one of the most loved stories to hit the stage.
