Bringing theatre and performance to areas that may not often get to see the vibrancy of dance upon a stage, Ndilinde (which means ‘wait for me’ in IsiXhosa) is a stage production that showcases poignant stories through dance at the Black Box Theatre in Delft from Friday, 31 July to Friday, 7 August 2015.
Brought to audiences by Rainbow Arts Organisation and forming part of Iqonga Creative Productions, Ndilinde focuses on the stories (told through dance) of eight women from all walks of life who share one thing in common: a checked travelling bag. The bags (commonly seen in South Africa) are known as omasgoduke and are still used for long distance travel in our pretty city. In the dance performance, the bags contain each woman’s life and story. The plot thickens as the surrounding community begins to see the women’s lives unfold. The focus on South African females makes this an excellent play to watch during Women’s Month.
For those not in the know, Iqonga Creative Productions intends to bring more plays and creative pieces from areas like Delft, Mfuleni, Gugulethu and more to the fore. The organisation is committed to using professional and semi- professional actors whilst stimulating arts and creativity in these areas. The audiences are also from the surrounding regions with a focus on making arts accessible to school learners and the local community.
If you can’t make this event then be sure to check out the Women’s Humanity Arts Festival happening over that same time period.
