After a 6-year hiatus, the well-know Mr & Miss Surf pageant will be held again in April. The pageant was started in 1962 by local sporting personality Hubert Montgomery as a fund-raising exercise for the Hottentots Holland Weightlifting Club.
The pageant was held annually for 43 years before ending after the last edition in 2005. A number of winners, runners-up and finalists went on to compete at the Mr SA and Miss SA pageants with distinction.
12 male and 12 female finalists will be selected to take part in the final on Saturday 16th April. Prizes in excess of R90 000 can be won, and the winners will represent South Africa at international pageants in South America.
Mr Surf will travel to Guatemala to compete at the 2011 Mr Earth Worldwide pageant, and Miss Surf will travel to Uruguay for the 2012 Miss Atlantico Internacional pageant.
The pageant final will feature a number of well-known local entertainers, and the panel of judges includes a former Miss SA, a well-known Cape Town designer and a model scout from a leading Cape Town model agency.
