The Odyssey Gastropub, a city centre haunt that marries a restaurant and bar under one roof, is a champion of masterful combinations. And as if to prove the point, the double-storey watering hole is now pairing Mondays with a brilliant burger special that treats after-work visitors to two premium beef, chicken or vegetarian patties for just R100 (that’s just R50 each).

Running from open (12pm) to close, the deal is the perfect merger, considering that the double dose really helps to take the edge off the otherwise gloomy start of the week. Aside from being very reasonably priced, the burgers are free-range and as tasty as they come. Plus, they’re served with a generous portion of the eatery’s signature homemade rosemary fries.

To complete the meal, visitors can spend their extra change on a few tipples; the bar stocks a range of proudly South African drinks, including a selection of SAB draughts, an assortment of local artisan ale, a wide array of Cape wines, a couple of classic cocktails and a few high-end Mzansi liquors.

Though, whether you choose to match booze and burger or not, The Odyssey promises a particularly enjoyable dining experience. It claims trendy, industrial-chic décor, a fireplace for cooler days and an ambience that shakes off the grimy pub stereotype and is both inviting and upscale.
