Multi-talented performer and vocalist Alistair Izobell will host Swinging in the District - a series of live jazz performances - at GrandWest’s Jackson Hall.
Izobell will be backed up by a four-piece band of lead and bass guitarists, drummer and keyboard player and saxophonist. They will perform three sets of 45 minutes each beginning at 21h00 and ending at 24h00.
David Kramer and the late Taliep Petersen first discovered Alistair when they cast him in the role of ‘Broertjie’ in District Six – The Musical. He was later selected to tour the world with Kat and the Kings and in 1999 he received the esteemed Sir Lawrence Olivier Award whilst performing the role of ‘Magoo’ at London’s West End and Broadway,.
His earliest brush with international fame came when he and Ricardo performed the song Children of the World at a festival in Tokyo. The song went on to be chosen as the National Anthem for UNICEF and he was one of the special guest artists performing side by side with Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Tyler, BJ Thomas and Dan Hill and other musical luminaries.
Locally, he has shared the stage and performed with successful artists such as the late Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Ricardo, Sipho Hotstix Mabusa and Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels. Izobell also became the lead singer of popular group The Rockets and toured extensively with them.
His followers will also remember his role of Ritchie Valens in the South African theatre production of the hit musical, The Buddy Holly Story” as well as the Pieter Toerien production of The Doowah Boys.
*Duration - Three sets of 45 minutes each*
