Indie Karoo Film Festival in Prince Albert

Discover some of South Africa’s finest emerging talent from the film industry at this fiesta

South Africa is fast becoming an established producer of compelling screen stories and short films, with some really gifted young blood coming through who are reinvigorating the local movie industry. Many of these storytellers will be showcasing their features, documentaries and experimental shorts at the second annual Indie Karoo Film Festival, taking place from Wednesday, 29 June to Sunday, 3 July 2016 in the little town of Prince Albert.

This feast of local films serves as a platform for appreciative audiences to engage and interact with these creative film makers and their works. Over the three day period, four venues in the quaint town (The Showroom Theatre, Zwartberg High, Jans Rautenbach Schouwburg and the Sidwell Williams Centre) will be screening a variety of feature films, documentaries and exciting short experimental pieces. Of these four venues, The Showroom Theatre is the flagship venue as it boasts top-notch camera and screening equipment that will definitely do the films justice.

You can expect to see multi-award winning films such as The Boers at the End of the World, a fascinating documentary that uncovers a century-old Afrikaans community living in the Argentinian Patagonia, as well as Verskietende Ster (Shooting Star), which is an inspiring tale of hidden talents and forgiveness in a relationship between father and son. A full list of selected films can be found on their website.

Apart from sitting back and immersing yourself in the films, the festival will also hold workshops on scriptwriting, directing, editing and grading. You will be able to learn from industry experts and passionate professionals, so if you’re wondering how to break into the film world, then this is your chance to get a headstart.
