The Mother City is getting ready for yet another kaleidoscopic assault of multi-coloured paint powder as the Holi Festival of Colours 2013 World Tour takes over Sahara Park Newlands on Saturday, 12 October 2013. Not to be confused with the colour runs dashing through Cape Town during the same month or the Holi One Festival, which was the first of the lot to colonise locals, this fiesta is organized by the same people who put on Germany’s original celebrations in 2012.
Otherwise though, like its counterparts, it’s also based on the large Indian festival that celebrates the beginning of spring and the triumph of good over evil. As in the past, the Western take on the Hindu fiesta aims to spread a message of peace and harmony, but really, it’s mainly about the puffs of purple, yellow, red and green tainting the air in magnificent fluorescence while top local acts provide a live soundtrack for the epic jol.
Revelers can expect to get bright and wild to Mi Casa, Locnville, Roger Goode, Jeremy Loops and more as every hour, on the hour, a countdown calls on everyone to toss their powder into the sky in a vibrant explosion of colour; plus, there will be food and drink vendors to sustain the high energy levels. If the Johannesburg leg of the Holi Festival of Colours tour is anything to go by, it’s going to be a rainbow-rific jam.
