Eggs benedict & flat white for R119, + try the viral crookie
Capetonians love freebies as much as they detest driving more than 15 minutes to a destination. It’s a well-known fact, and one that presents wine lovers with a rather difficult predicament. After all, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and surrounds are at least a good 40-minute drive for most, so often, even on-the-house sampling sessions aren’t enough to get real Mother City-ites into the car and out onto the road for the long trek.
The good news? Thanks to Cozier Wine Cellars in Gardens, vino fundis don’t have to journey out to the Cape Winelands to sip and swirl the good stuff for mahala. Every first and last Friday of the month, the fine wine, craft beer and premium liquor shop is hosting FREE tastings from 4pm to 6pm.
During each bimonthly event, tasting masters from different farms lead drop-in tutorials that give insight into a particular winery’s winemaking method, history, philosophy and ranges. It goes without saying that the educators bring a few bottles of their tipple for sampling, and everyone, from connoisseurs to casual drinkers, is invited to give what’s going a try.
Aside from being a fantastic opportunity to discover a vintage that’s completely new to you, the sessions are also a chance to further explore your love for wine. The tasting leaders will carefully guide you through the sipping and swirling process, explaining some of the more technical intricacies (if you’re interested) and helping you develop your palate.
The wine tastings are just part of Cozier’s commitment to introducing patrons to superior vino. So, after you’re done discussing ‘the nose’ on that one and ‘the legs’ on this one, a store team member can help you pick out a bottle of something perfect for you.
With a selection that includes exotic boutique wine, rare vintages of past and even extremely delicious entry-level options (prices start from R36), the shop guarantees that almost anyone can find something to take home for dinner or to share with friends.
And of course, those who don’t have the stomach for a good glass of vino can peruse the emporium’s assortment of hard-to-find spirits and handcrafted ale.

Don’t have time to pop in for the wine tasting and a shop? Rather cruise the aisles in cyberspace and come away with fine wine via Cozier’s online store.
