A hot-shot, up and coming interior designer moves back to her roots, revealing an opportunity for rural collaborations.

Are you looking to renovate your home or simply zhoosh up a bland room? Mzansi’s foremost interior design exhibition, Decorex Cape Town, returns in 2016 to the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) to provide décor inspiration from Friday, 29 April, to Monday, 2 May 2016. This year’s theme is ‘Take it Home, Make it Home’, so be prepared to find everything you need to give your space a new face.
German literary critic and philosopher Walter Benjamin once famously noted that, “To live means to leave traces”. This simple yet powerful statement sums up the driving force behind the lifestyle expo: Decorex Cape Town aims to provide home-owners, interior decorators and designers alike with the trendiest tools to, as Benjamin so aptly pointed out, make any house a home.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2016 DECOREX CAPE TOWN
THE DÉCOR AND DIY THEATRE: An exciting first for the Cape Town edition, the theatre is a wonderful and motivating space where the latest trends will be discussed via a series of interactive talks. Guests will come away with all the inspiring ideas and decorating savvy necessary to revamp a home.
DECOREX DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: A highly anticipated slot at the annual design fair, the 2016 Decorex Designer Spotlight features Adriaan Lochner, a well-known Cape Town designer, who’ll showcase a ‘transitional-eclectic style that fuses cultural elements whilst remaining timelessly elegant and affordable.’
THE #DECOREXHOTSEATS: Ten carefully chosen ambassadors will literally be in the hot seat as they select their favourite home-grown chairs from a selection of exquisite entries.
THE GOODWOOD CONSIDERED HOME: Sponsored by Goodwood Co, this on-trend exhibit is a beautifully layered and curated space, showcasing various quality pieces – both high-end and store bought. Best of all, many of the products showcased will be available at Decorex, so you can recreate the look.
PLASCON 2016 COLOUR PALETTE: Which colours will be popping on your walls in 2016? Find out with the much-anticipated Plascon Colour Forecast, which will show you the predicted colour fashions and how best to use them in your home.
THE MAKERS CORNER BY THE SA MAKER COLLECTIVE: Play, have fun and make great things with our very own local maker movement! This interactive space will give free reign to creative souls to view the latest Do It Yourself technology to bring their DIY dreams to fruition.
THE TOP MAN SHOWCASE: Men can unleash their inner interior designers by living vicariously through these ‘men-only’ installations. In the Top Man showcase, local male celebs partner with a designer who creates a room inspired by their aesthetic. Can testosterone equal good taste? You be the judge…
CRAFT & CREATE: Bringing a variety of local handmade products to one place, the Craft & Create showcase will be a utopia for lovers of little trinkets. Visitors can expect to find a wide range of limited edition pieces and pretty items made predominantly by those from Cape Town and surrounds.
THE DINING DISTRICT & PANTRY: If all this design inspiration leaves you famished, check out the bustling ‘pantry’ to fill up on tasty artisanal fare, whilst also loading up on takeaway goodies for later. The brand new Dining District will also be a platform for every kind of furnishing and device necessary for decadent dining, so be sure to pop in there as well.
